Mitchell Magoon Joins The KR Group

In August The KR Group added Mitchell Magoon to its team. He fills the role of technical services manager and works primarily with the managed IT services team.

“I heard about the opportunity from mutual friends; one of my good friends used to work with Braden (Bolkema) and Matt (Keeler) at their previous job,” Mitchell explained. “So I knew about The KR Group and had met Braden at a couple of networking events. I knew this was an opportunity I wanted to take.”

Mitchell brings with him knowledge about IT management and enterprise networks from his previous employment at US Signal. Not only does this experience help The KR Group internally, but he’s also transferred some of this knowledge to other engineers to subsequently benefit customers.

“As we got to know Mitchell during the recruiting process, it became clear that he understood what it took to manage a team whose members had different roles and different personalities, that he wanted to be part of a culture of growth and improvement, and that he cared about people,” Braden said. “His approach showed us that he aligned very well with our core values while also challenging the team to be better.”

In a nutshell, he manages all the service tickets that The KR Group receives by dispatching them to the engineering team. In between service requests, he also coaches and mentors the engineers on the latest in cloud, hybrid, and on-premises solutions.

Mitchell is the first person to take responsibility for the above duties, and he singularly holds the role of technical services manager at The KR Group. By not sharing it with one, two, or more major roles, he’s been able to focus on building and developing the engineering team rather than maintaining it.

Overall, Braden and the other partners at The KR Group believe Mitchell is a great addition and is happy to have him as part of the team.

When it comes to working at The KR Group, Mitchell enjoys how interconnected all of the various niches of IT are and the subsequent friendly, helpful attitude from other members of the team.

However, his personal favorite part of the job is always having a new problem to tackle each today.

“I like that every day is different,” he continued. “The customers are the same, but there is always something to learn. I’ve definitely realized I don’t know as much as I thought I did.”

However, from Braden’s perspective, Mitchell has taken the initiative to fill in those knowledge gaps and eagerly join The KR Group’s culture.

“Mitchell wasted no time taking over huddle calls, department meetings, and 1:1 leadership with our service team,” Braden continued. “He also integrated himself with the leadership team and quickly showed he can listen, understand, make decisions, and take action.”

Outside of work, Mitchell spends time with his wife and bulldog-beagle mix at their home on the northeast side of Grand Rapids. The three of them are dedicated Michigan State fans.

Mitchell works primarily out of The KR Group’s Grand Rapids office. If you haven’t met him yet, make sure to stop in and say hello.
